“Pastime with Good Company”

Newberry Consort 2017 Gala Fundraising Event

Join us on Sunday, March 5th following the Consort’s 3:00pm performance of “THE QUEEN: Christina, the Girl King” for the Newberry Consort’s gala evening, Pastime with Good Company, in the beautiful Performance Penthouse of the Logan Center for the Arts, Hyde Park, just an elevator’s ride away from the performance.

Enjoy a scrumptious dinner inspired by the European Travels of Queen Christina of Sweden through Sweden, Germany, Italy, and France and her dealings with such luminaries as Louis XIV and Pope Alexander VII; Torch Songs by Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen & Chris Bagan and Fiddle Tunes by Brandi Berry & Lucas Harris; and an Auction, all to benefit the Newberry Consort.  This is an evening not to be missed!

The concert immediately preceding the gala presents a musical history of the life of the amazing Queen Christina, one of Europe’s great eccentrics, from her childhood and reign in Sweden to her abdication and life in Rome.

We’ll perform music written for or heard by her by the many illustrious composers she knew, including Lully, Carissimi, Corelli, and Cesti, performed by singers, violins, and a rich continuo band of keyboards, theorbo, guitar, and lirone.

Readings from contemporary accounts and her letters by special guest Chicago-based author Sara Paretsky, Narrator.
