Allison Selby Cook

Allison Selby Cook is a Chicago-based singer, actor, and multi-instrumentalist specializing in early music.  She is so pleased to be joining Newberry Consort twice this season, as both a singer and a baroque violist.  After studying with Ellen Hargis and David Douglass at Northwestern University, Allison has gone on to opera and early music festivals in Siena (Italy), New York, Boston, and Berkeley.  This season, she continues her long association with vocal ensembles Marion Consort and UNUM, as well as returning to the Early Music at the Barn series in Grayslake, IL.  She also brings historical performance to the theater, as Associate Music Director and an actor/instrumentalist in Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s Nell Gwynn.  Last season, Allison made her international radio broadcast debut on Live From WFMT 98.7FM with Kerry Frumkin, singing a full program of works by Jewish-Italian renaissance composer Salomone Rossi.  Previously at Northwestern, she made her national television broadcast debut on the Big Ten Network, as both a singer and baroque violist in works of Buxtehude and Monteverdi.
