Newberry Consort Seeks Applications for Executive Director

The Newberry Consort (Chicago, IL) seeks to engage an Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be an arts administrator with experience in concert and event production.  This is a half-time position. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.

Primary job function: To be an equal executive partner to the Artistic Director with the goal of supporting The Newberry Consort’s creative work and mission. The Executive Director will oversee the daily functions of the Consort, including fundraising, audience development, marketing, BOD communication, and financial management. The ED will support and report to the BOD, support and work in partnership with the AD, and supervise the Consort’s part-time staff (including our grant-writer, publicist, graphic designer, web designer, and two concert production assistants). The ED is expected to take a lead role in fundraising and development.  The ED will also cultivate community, educational, and touring opportunities for the Consort  and facilitate all concert operations. The ED will be a strategic thinker who is passionate about the mission of The Newberry Consort.  The Executive Director must live in Chicago and/or be willing to relocate to Chicago; moving timeline and expenses to be discussed.
 
Start Date: The position opens as early as January 1, 2024 but no later than July 1, 2024, with a period of transition training by knowledgeable Consort staff.

Qualifications 
·       Education and experience
o   Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
o   3+ years’ experience in Arts Management and/or non-profit management 
·       Skills and Knowledge
o   Ability to think and plan strategically
o   Excellent written and oral communication skills
o   Knowledge of performing arts and event production 
o   Knowledge of music history sufficient to work with the Artistic Director in planning programs and reviewing program-oriented materials
o   Demonstrated experience in budgeting and financial management
o   Experience or facility with QuickBooks Online and project/team management tools such as Asana desirable; technology skills sufficient to use Patron Management/CRM Software, Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and related applications
·       Behavioral Characteristics 
o   Desire to take initiative; work independently; and delegate effectively 
o   Ability to establish personal relationships with donors, Board members, foundation officers, and artists
o   Enthusiasm in leading a venerable and growing artistic organization
